bullet About the River City Rowing Club Junior Crew

  Club Overview
Operating under the auspices of the River City Rowing Club, the RCRC Juniors offer young people in 8th to 12th grade the opportunity to learn to row, then compete against teams from throughout the western United States. First year rowers are assigned to the RCRC Juniors Novice Team, while those with at least a year's experience row as members of the Varsity Team.  RCRC offers teens a safe environment in which fitness, self-discipline, teamwork and camaraderie are emphasized. Crew members get the opportunity to race against other junior teams at regattas around the state, including the 5700-meter Head of the Port  hosted by RCRC.  The team practices at the Port of Sacramento in West Sacramento, a well-protected body of water located close to downtown Sacramento.

  Mission Statement
River City Rowing Club was created as the junior rowing organization under the direction of Oar and Paddle. RCRC is dedicated to fostering athletic and human development, encouraging a positive vision in our young men and women through exercise, example and athletic competition and fully recognizing the dignity of each rower.

With this Mission in mind, the following goals have been determined:
  • To build a community which strives to foster wholesome choices
  • To develop team spirit and personal acceptance
  • To instill good sportsmanship in the life-styles of the participants
  • To teach the participants the proper attitude towards winning, losing and competing with dignity
  • To develop acceptance and appreciation of others
  • To train, instruct and follow athletic/sport rules
  • To develop the students’ physical abilities and coordination
  • To help form well-rounded students by fostering good health habits
  • To provide a safe environment and an outlet for youthful energy
  • To teach the positive value of athletic participation
  • To show the necessity of practice, hard work and time management.
