bullet River City Rowing Club Junior Crew President's Message

  Dear Rowers, Coxswains and Parents,

Welcome to the 2007-2008 RCRC Junior Crew rowing season! We are looking forward to another year of great rowing, good competition and the growth and development of River City athletes and the junior crew. The Junior Crew is actively recruiting new members so that our team can field multiple boats during competition. If you know of other families with middle/high school aged children, please extend an invitation to them to check out our club. After enjoying a successful rowing season in 2006-2007, our coaches are looking forward to another great year!

Volunteers
Our club relies on the rower's parents and families for their help to ensure that the club can provide all of the necessary ancillary support to run the regattas and to run the club. Each family is requested to contribute a minimum of 20 hours to the club. The club needs assistance whether it is at home hosting a regatta or on the road competing outside of the area. We ask that all families contribute some time to make our season a success for our children. A great deal of the volunteer time can be done at your convenience and in the comfort of your office or home. This season we have included a Parent Participation Form so that each family can keep track of the required 20 hours of participation. A Parent Handbook that outlines the different ways that families can help their rower and the club is available online. The handbook will explain what a parent should expect regarding their child's activities as the season progresses. If you are new to the club this handbook should answer many of your questions.

Team Parent Meetings
Each coach will schedule a team parents meeting early in the season. This is an important meeting. It will provide parents with an opportunity to meet the coach and other team parents, ask questions about practices, competitions, etc. - even about rowing! Please be sure to attend this meeting.

Registration Packet
The registration packet, which is available for download, includes useful information and forms that must be turned in before an athlete can participate in Junior Crew activities. The checklist sheet enumerates the "what, when and where" of what you need to turn in. Note that most items are due the second day of practice. Fall dues are to be paid no later than October 1, 2007.

Dues
Our Treasurer, Linda Davis, has prepared information on dues and payments. Your board believes that our dues are still very reasonable and a real bargain for the wonderful benefits that our athletes receive. Linda has prepared a dues payment voucher which should be included with your payment. She may be contacted for additional information about dues or financial arrangements and scholarship applications.

If you have any questions regarding this packet or anything related to the club, please do not hesitate to contact me by phone at (530) 758-8226 or by email at bkline@ryder.com. I look forward to an exciting season and seeing each of you at many RCRC Junior Crew events.

Sincerely,
B.J. Kline, President
