bullet River City Rowing Club Junior Crew Treasurer's Message

  August 15, 2007

Dear Rowers, Coxswains and Parents,

The River City Rowing Club offers valuable opportunities for junior rowers to develop their athletic and team building skills as part of a unique, self supporting organization. The River City Rowing Club is a team built upon and supported by athletes and their families, as the club receives no public or endowment funds to support the infrastructure (i.e. shells and boathouse), coaches, and attendance at rowing events. The only means by which the team supports itself is through the collection of dues, as well as tremendous volunteer support from Junior Crew parents and other club members. Fundraising such as the Ergothon generally focuses on purchasing new equipment for the Junior Crew and club.

This year the RCRC Junior Crew dues for the 2007-2008 has been adjusted to reflect cost increases; $750.00 for varsity rowers and $810.00 for novice (this includes the annual dues of $750.00 plus $60.00 for the uniform). These dues will cover the Junior Crew’s projected costs for participating in league races, US Rowing dues, team insurance through River City Rowing Club, maintenance and repair of equipment, and coach stipends. Our club dues are lower than most, if not all, rowing club dues in Northern California, and are an immense value when you factor in the experience and personal growth gained by our rowers and coxswains participating in the exciting sport of rowing.

In past years, the varsity rowers have had the opportunity to compete in national regattas such as Head of the Lake in Seattle, WA or the San Diego Crew Classic. The cost of these regattas is in addition to the annual dues. Last year, these 2-3 day trips cost around $350 per rower per event. As fuel costs continue to increase so will these travel costs. It would be safe to plan on at least one such trip (in Spring 2008) and maybe one in Fall 2007. We will send out more information once regattas are scheduled and costs are determined.

Information on dues, payment schedules, payment vouchers, and financial aid is enclosed as part of the attached packet. If you have any questions regarding the dues, sibling discounts or the Junior Crew budget, please do not hesitate to contact me by phone  at (916) 372-5768 or by email at deltamom4850@yahoo.com . I am looking forward to an exciting and successful season for the River City Rowing Club Junior Crew, and visiting with all of you at practices and regattas.

Sincerely,
Linda Davis
Treasurer
